Tips to Slim Down (your project) in 2009 CINEMA4D reduce your model's polycount - forever! By Ko Maruyama It's time for those New Years resolutions to start piling up.  You know the ones: I'm going to eat healthy food.  I won't slouch at my desk.  I'll spend less time on Facebook, Twitter and (insert your own). . . I'M GOING TO SLIM DOWN. Well how about some slimming tips you might actually stick to?  Here are some ways to slim down your animation projects in 2009....

In this first tip, I'll take a look at that bloated, heavy feeling you might be experiencing in your 3D models--especially those that have come in from other applications for the holidays.

In Maxon's C4D you can import several different formats of 3D geometry, including the COLLADA  format in MAXON's  latest release: R11. Occasionally, however, some of those models that you import are a little bit heavy (to say the least). It doesn't matter to C4D necessarily because the application can handle millions of polygons. But if you're like me, and don't have a 32 processor machine, or an auxiliary multi GPU graphics processor (like NVIDIA's Quadro Plex (growl after you say it)),  handling millions upon millions of polygons can slow you down. . .  unless you trim down.

While I won't get into it in this quick tip, C4D has many solutions which allow you to easily switch out proxy models for high-rez versions.
